Tasty home made Chicken and Potato curry
Delicious Home made Chicken and potato curry. If you prefer a less hot dish reduce the quantity of red chilli powder.I hope you enjoy this curry as much as we enjoyed!
Ingredients

- 10 chicken pieces bone-in (can be Chicken thighs or drumsticks or mix)
- 6 large potatoes cut into 1 inch cubes
- 3 Tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 tsp ginger chopped optional, but preferred
- 1 tsp garlic chopped optional, but preferred
- 2 large red onions finely chopped
- 3 tsp red chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 can (400g) chopped tomatoes
- 4 tsp garam masala or curry powder
- 1/2 tsp Black pepper powder to season
- Salt to season
- To garnish
- Handful Coriander leaves/ Cilantro chopped
Instructions
- Heat the oil in a wok or heavy-bottomed saucepan over a medium heat.
- Add the chopped ginger, garlic and sliced onions along with a pinch of salt and cook slowly on low heat until the onion is translucent. It might take approximately 10 mins.
- Add the red chilli powder, turmeric powder, pepper powder, 3 tsp garam masala powder to the sauteed mixture and mix well for 30sec.
- Add the can of chopped tomatoes to this mixture and mix well.
- Add 3 cups of water and 1 tsp of salt and increase the heat to medium and allow to boil.
- Add the chicken pieces and potatoes and mix well.
- On medium heat, let the chicken and potatoes get cooked well for 20-30 mins.
- Taste and if required at this stage add black pepper powder and salt and mix well.
- At this stage, add 1 more tsp of garam masala or curry powder and mix well.
- Switch off the heat when dish has the desired consistency. If require a much thick curry, allow to simmer till the water content is reduced further.
- Add handful of chopped coriander leaves and close the pan.
- Serve warm and enjoy this chicken and potato curry!
